TASK 1:
Question: The plans below show how the ground floor of a particular building has changed over time.
ANSWER:
The plans illustrate how the ground floor of a particular building has changed over time, from an office between 1958 and 1984 to an apartment from 1985 to 2000, and finally to a flower shop from 2001 to the present.
Overall, the building has undergone a complete functional transformation, shifting from a workplace to a residential space and eventually to a commercial shop. While the entrance and kitchen have remained unchanged, most other areas have been modified for different purposes.
From 1958 to 2000, the office layout was transformed into an apartment. In the top left corner, the meeting room became a living room, while the kitchen in the top right stayed the same. Below this, the assistant’s office was replaced by a bathroom, and the secretary’s office in the bottom left corner was turned into a shower. On the right-hand side, the manager’s office became Bedroom 1, and an additional bedroom (Bedroom 2) was introduced in the bottom right corner.
From 2001 onwards, the building has undergone a further transformation into a flower shop. In the top left corner, the conversion of the former living room has resulted in a gift card area, whereas the kitchen has remained unchanged. Below this, the bathroom has been redesigned as a play area, while Bedroom 1 now serves as an office. In the bottom right corner, Bedroom 2 has been repurposed as a flower display area, and the central space is now used to display flowers, creating a more open layout for customers.
