The chart below shows the expenditure on three categories among different age groups of residents in the UK in 2004.
The bar graph compares the spending patterns of five age cohorts on different products and services in the UK in 2004. Overall, there was a general trend of increasing expenditure on food and beverages with age. Additionally, while the proportion of total spending on dining and hotel accommodation dipped in the 61-75 age group, this bracket allocated the highest share on leisure activities.
Regarding food and drink, the over 76 year olds ranked 1st as roughly 23% of their spending was allotted to this category. This was followed by the 61-75, 46-60 and 31-45 age groups at precisely 20%, approximately 17% and 13%, respectively.
Concerning eateries and hotels, the youngest cohort of under 30 spent the highest share at nearly 15%, which was minimally greater than comparable figures for the 31-45 and 46-60 age brackets, at around 13%. The oldest people expended about 7% whereas residents aged 61-75 had the lowest rate at below 3%.
Turning to recreation, residents aged 61-75 spent the most, at over 23%. Furthermore, citizens under 30 and 31-45 years old shared an equivalent proportion of approximately 7%, which was about half the budget of the 46-60 and over 76 age groups. (198 words)

ANSWER:
Nowadays, taking a break from their studies to engage in activities such as traveling or working after graduating from high school is becoming a popular option for students. This essay will elaborate on the benefits and drawbacks of this trend.
There are several advantages associated with taking a gap year. At first, it assists students to avoid academic exhaustion and provides time for self-development. Specifically, utilizing this period to travel provides them the opportunity to gain new experiences that can contribute to their personal growth. Visiting different countries, for instance, can expose them to diverse cultures, broadening their horizons and assisting in their development as adaptive and independent individuals. Additionally, working during a gap year allows students to accumulate funds for college expenses which can lessen their financial burden upon resuming their studies.
However, this pattern might also possess various downsides. Mostly, it may impede academic progress since students may find it challenging when transitioning back to their education life. Due to the disruption of study momentum, students may struggle to readjust to the structure and discipline required for academic success. Furthermore, this approach may also lead to a professional setback. Deferring college enrollment will delay students’ formal education, therefore postponing their entry to the workforce. For example, if a student plans to become a doctor and takes a year off after high school, they will likely be a year behind their peers who went straight into college. This can have an impact on their potential earning and professional development in the long run.
In conclusion, while having a gap year after graduating high school can offer several benefits such as self-development and financial stability, it is not without its detrimental ramifications including loss of study motivation and a deferred professional life. When considering such a decision, students should carefully weigh its merits and risks, which vary depending on individual circumstances. (311 words)
