Question: Some people believe teenagers should focus on all subjects equally, whereas other people think that they should concentrate on only those subjects that they find interesting and they are best at. Discuss both views and give your opinion?
ANSWER:
While many argue that high schoolers should emphasise a balanced approach all disciplines, others propose a more specialised priority on their areas of interest and proficiency. In my opinion, teenage students ought to concentrate on their preferred subjects.
Advocates of studying a wide range of subjects may support their notion with two valid reasons. Chief of which is that teenagers may benefit from a holistic development. Each subject offers unique perspectives, skills, and knowledge. For instance, while mathematics sharpens logical thinking and problem-solving skills, literature enhances creativity, language proficiency, and empathy. Moreover, this prepares highschool children for diverse opportunities in their academic or professional journeys. An individual equipped with knowledge across various subjects can adapt better to changing circumstances and explore multiple career paths, thereby increasing their chances of success and making them more employable in a rapidly evolving job market.
An alternative stance argues that youths should only prioritise subjects that they have passion and display an attitude for. Firstly, studying their preferences can stimulate their enjoyment so they may contribute more time to research. Increased academic engagement can lead to outstanding scholastic outcomes. Secondly, different people can showcase different talents. Thus, educators should be more thoughtful to offer a more personalised teaching program to captivate students’ attention and nurture their inborn abilities. For example, those who are strong with natural science should focus more on physics or chemistry while those who show potential for more pragmatic fields should enroll in culinary art or tailoring classes.
In conclusion, although proponents of equal focus on all academic sectors consider it to be conducive to adolescents’ well-rounded development and their future career, I strongly oppose this idea. This is because I believe that specializing in favored subjects can raise academic involvement and foster innate abilities. (294 words)
