Question: The chart below gives information about the journeys to school by children aged 11 to 16 in the UK in a year
ANSWER:
The bar graph delineates the proportion of 11 to 16 year-old pupils who utilize different transport methods to schools in the UK in a year, categorized by distances. Overall, cycling is the most preferred means for 2 mile or less trips, whereas buses are used by the highest percentage of youths for longer trips.
Regarding travel length of at most 2 miles, 80% of surveyed students use bicycles for the distance of 1 mile or less, followed by 60% walking. Cars and buses witness the lowest figures of around 22% for the similar distance. As for 1 to 2 mile trips, cycling remains the most favored method with approximately 55% of students, followed by a half that walked. Meanwhile, buses and cars each accommodate around a third of this cohort.
Lengthier trips record higher rates of vehicle commuters. For the distance of 2 to 5 miles, the highest share is documented from bus users at nearly half of the pupils. A relatively high 40% of pupils still walk to schools over this distance, while bicycles and cars exhibit comparable figures of roughly 35%. Concerning over 5 mile trips, buses and cars serve around 70% and nearly 50% of students, respectively. Finally, cycling sees the lowest percentage of surveyors at 20%.
