The diagram below shows the production of olive oil.
The picture demonstrates how olive oil is produced. Overall, there are seven steps involved in the making of olive oil, from harvesting the olives, through various factory based stages with specialist equipment, to the storage and eventual sale of the finished product .
The extraction of olive paste in the first three stages is essential in the making of olive oil. Firstly, when matured olives are harvested from the trees, they are then collected in baskets and rinsed with cold water. After this, they go through a conveyor belt to a smashing machine, which grinds the fruit into olive paste and discarded olive stones, with the former being used for the next stage.
The next steps involve the production of olive oil. After the olive paste is extracted and packed into holed bags, it is then placed into a pressing device. Subsequently, water is separated from olive oil which is then delivered to the storage and shops in the final step, ready for distribution to consumers.

Question: Some people think history has nothing or little to tell us, but others think that studying the past history can help us better understand the present. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
(IELTS Academic – 19/11/2022)
ANSWER:
While many believe historical events serve as guidance to circumvent similar issues in contemporary times, others assert that they offer mankind almost nothing. I consider that studying past events has considerable value in explaining today’s society, encouraging positive nationalism, and preparing citizens for the future..
There are several ways in which history is beneficial. Chief among these is that history documents the patterns of specific problems in the past, and in turn, interprets the causes and outcomes of similar issues arising in the present. Consequently, it derives profound insights and solutions for current and future challenges. Another justification is that history educates citizens on the importance of national security. Understanding their predecessors’ sacrifices in the protection of a nation makes citizens more appreciative of their country’s efforts and inclined to contribute to national defense.
Nevertheless, there are schools of thought that maintain the notion that mankind can learn very little from history as it is hard to ascertain the whole truth. First, the past is something humans can only study from archives, rather than direct observation. Consequently, people can only perceive a portion of the whole, which may lead to misunderstanding or misdirection. Additionally, the documentation of history is subject to obfuscation. Historical documents have different variations of what truly happened because historians are susceptible to bias and self-righteousness when reporting past events. For instance, Vietnamese and Chinese citizens are educated that the other country historically took the initiative of invading their homeland, resulting in animosity between the two nations. As a result, people may be unable to comprehend and draw truths from actual reality.
In conclusion, I consider that although individuals can be misguided from learning history as it may be misinterpreted or incomplete, past events significantly help humanity in resolving contemporary issues and fostering patriotism. To prevent misinterpretation, I recommend all variations of history should be researched in depth to provide partiality. (311 words)
