Question: The chart below shows the percentage of a drug company’s total sales, by region, from 2002 to 2006
ANSWER:
The stacked column chart delineates the revenue composition of a pharmaceutical business across three parts of the world, between 2002 and 2006. Overall, the sales rate in Europe and America exhibited a downward trend over the given period, whereas that in Asia showed a reverse pattern, and surpassed in volume the other two regions in the end.
Regarding America, 41% of the company’s revenue was generated in this region in 2002, which was the highest. After that, the figure declined significantly and experienced a low of 27% by 2004, before recovering to 29% in 2005 and ending at 30%.
Europe accounted for approximately a third of total revenue in 2002. Subsequently, the proportion of earnings from this continent increased moderately and peaked at 38% in 2004, followed by a sudden drop to its initial level in the following year. Another decrease in 2006 saw sales rate reduce to 30%.
Finally, Asia’s revenue percentage, despite rising markedly, was consistently the lowest in the first two years at 25% and 30%, respectively. However, it continued climbing to 37% in 2005, overtaking the other two regions, before finishing at precisely 40%.
