Question: Many different countries have most shops and products as the same. Some consider it a positive development, whereas others consider it negative. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.
ANSWER:
Nowadays, similar retail brands and their products appear predominantly across multiple countries. Some people considered this as a beneficial development, while others believe it poses harmful impacts. This essay will elaborate on both viewpoints and give reasons for my advocacy for the latter.
Proponents of retail experiences provide two justifications for their opinion. At first, this situation helps distribute superior quality products to global consumers. Clearly, the international expansion of a brand indicates its acceptance in terms of excellence. As a consequence, buyers can be assured that they are supplied with the finest products in the market. Additionally, it encourages the improvement of domestic goods. In fact, the domination of internationally famous brands and products promotes efforts for local businesses to compete in order to reclaim their market share. Consequently, they are motivated to produce better alternatives for consumers, eventually leading to a higher quality of local products.
Nonetheless, others argue that this trend is detrimental. A primary downside is the possible loss of cultures and traditions. With the prevalence of global labels, there is a tendency for consumers to adopt the lifestyles promoted by these corporations. This change can result in a abandonment of cultural practices. For instance, Vietnamese festivals in recent years have witnessed a significant increase of female attendants wearing western outfits instead of Ao Dai, which is a traditional form of clothing that is distinct to the Vietnamese culture. Furthermore, this strategy may inflict economic dependency. Indeed, relying heavily on multinational products can make local economies vulnerable to external economic fluctuations and corporate decisions.
In conclusion, both sides have their merits. While conceding that the dominance of global products and stores in many countries may confer benefits regarding quality assurance and the possible enhancement of local brands, I believe this phenomenon is detrimental to the preservation of cultures and economic prospects. It is imperative for governments to restrain the influence of international corporations, in order to safeguard cultural diversity and stimulate the growth of local economies.
