ANSWER:
If individuals had the option between a lifestyle free from employment and one where they are occupied with work for the majority of their time, most would probably prefer the former. I mostly disagree with this opinion.
One valid argument for my agreement is that the intrinsic need for purpose drives many individuals to go to work even if given the option of staying at home. Working instils a deep sense of achievement, making people’s life more meaningful that goes beyond a mere need for earning a living. For example, teachers may enjoy the feeling of fulfilment when they help their students learn and develop. In contrast, they may feel it is meaningless to give up such a rewarding experience of life.
To add further credence to my belief is that having a job is essential for financial stability. Most people rely on their occupations to meet their basic necessities, such as paying for food, housing, and healthcare. Without a steady source of income, many individuals would face significant financial challenges, leading to stress and uncertainty. Even though a work-free life may seem appealing, the reality of lacking money to support oneself would make most people reconsider, making work an indispensable part of their life.
However, I concede that without the burden of work, people could have more time for personal fulfilment. This freedom would allow individuals to pursue their passions and interests without the constraints of a full-time job. For instance, they can adopt new hobbies, dedicate time to physical fitness, or engage in community service, all of which could bring a deeper sense of satisfaction and growth.
In conclusion, although the idea of a work-free life may allow people more time for personal commitments, I largely believe that work provides a sense of meaning and financial security that most individuals would be unwilling to give up.
