Question: Some people think it is a good thing for senior managers to have much higher salaries than the other workers in a company. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
ANSWER:
Many believe that in a business, more experienced executives receiving significantly higher remuneration packages compared to other employees is a favourable feature.Despite the potential for resentment amongst lower-level workers, I still mostly agree with this notion as the leadership team undertakes substantial responsibilities and this can motivate ordinary members to work more diligently.
The foremost argument for my belief is the importance of high-ranking leaders at work. Their duties involve effectively managing the company and making critical decisions, justifying their more lucrative income. For example, chief executive officers often face legal actions if their company fails to comply with state regulations and laws, requiring a good amount of compensation for their paramount responsibilities.
Moreover, I also consider that the high payments can incentivise their subordinates to work more assiduously and productively. This illustrates that their contribution to the company is highly valued, fostering a positive working environment where everyone strives for a thriving organisation. For instance, many financial firms have a clear career path with profitable monetary rewards to encourage new-comers to work harder and aspire for a promotion, which can boost work productivity in the long run.
However, I concede that a large disparity in salaries may create an inegalitarian workplace. Rank-and-file employees often have to bear laborious tasks which are often very manual and time-consuming, necessitating longer working hours. This imbalance can instil a sense of unfair treatment and hatred towards the managerial group, affecting organisational harmony and deflating the team morale.
In conclusion, I largely contend that it is beneficial for a company to pay their senior managerial roles considerably more than normal workers since this can offset their significant obligations and reward hard-working individuals. Nonetheless, I admit that this marked gap can intimidate junior staff members. Therefore, I suggest a fairer option where rewards are distributed to all people, with a larger portion allocated to leadership positions. (312 words)
