Question: Many people think modern communication technology is having some negative effects on social relationships. Do you agree or disagree?

ANSWER:
It is sometimes thought that recent advancements in technology have brought detrimental impacts on interpersonal relationships. However, I only partly agree with the notion as individuals cannot disregard the fact that it also offers various benefits to people’s communication.
On the one hand, my belief is that this development brings a number of drawbacks to human relationships. To begin with, it contributes to reducing conversation in actual gatherings. With intensive knowledge regarding updates of others given by advanced technology, people are not required to physically converse to acquire new information and therefore become estranged. For instance, friends frequently stare at their phone screens, rather than talking to each other during their encounters. Furthermore, advances in communication enable for possible scams to emerge due to talking to anonymous users on the internet. To illustrate, bogus profiles on dating apps are created to entice naive people, especially minors, thus creating distrust in society.
On the other hand, I concede that breakthroughs in communication technology also improve interactions between individuals. Firstly, cutting-edge technology allows people to engage with their connections regardless of time and geographical constraints, helping people to maintain contact with their acquaintances. Additionally, this advancement also helps enlarge people’s social circles. This is because it facilitates online forums or groups that connect persons with similar hobbies or interests. As a result, this allows individuals to establish new contacts.
In conclusion, I somewhat believe that although advanced communication technology diminishes people’s conversations and trust, it also produces several positive outcomes including increasing human interactions and widening people’s connections. Therefore, I recommend individuals to physically converse more when there are no geographical limits. (270 words)
