Question: Some people think traditional games are better than modern games in helping children develop their abilities. To what extent do you agree?
ANSWER:
Gaming, both traditional and contemporary, is considered to be a method that contributes to children’s development. However, many opine that the former type is superior in fostering the improvement of children’s skills. I predominantly disagree with this viewpoint.
Admittedly, I acknowledge that traditional games have the ability to develop communication skills among children. This form of games often requires direct engagement, which boosts verbal engagement. These interactions help children develop skills in discussion, providing arguments and understanding cues.
Nevertheless, I also contend that modern games equally contribute to fostering communication ability through digital environments. Nowadays, modern video games facilitate complex interaction systems, such as headphones, mics and cameras, that assist children to communicate and collaborate in real-time with others, even extending beyond local acquaintances to include global fellow players. This digital terrain can not only develop skills that are akin to those cultivated by traditional games, but also assist in expanding children’s social circles.
Another beneficial aspect of modern games that strengthens my advocacy is their ability to improve problem-solving and cognitive skills. In contrast to traditional games that feature simple rules for children to adhere to, such as hide-and-seek or tag, modern games are designed with complex scenarios that urge players to think critically and make quick decisions. This type of gameplay can improve mental agility, attention to detail, and the ability to strategize under pressure.
In conclusion, although traditional games are beneficial for developing children’s communication skills, I mostly oppose the idea that they are more effective in enhancing children’s abilities. Modern games not only cultivate comparable skills but also promote additional essential skills such as analytical and intellectual capabilities. (272 words)
