Question: Environmental protection should be the responsibility of politicians, not individuals as individuals can do too little. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
ANSWER:
Political appointees hold the utmost duty for safeguarding the environment rather than the general public as their role is trivial. I mostly disagree with this opinion.
I concede that politicians can shape public opinion on environmental preservation due to their actions. When lawmakers prioritise environmental protection, they can use their authority to implement nationwide policies or allocate national resources to introduce vital eco-friendly initiatives. This not only affects their citizenry but also has ripple effects across borders. To illustrate, many governments have agreed to enter the Kyoto Protocol to reduce worldwide carbon footprint.
However, I believe that it is equally important for normal citizens to take responsibility and make environmental-conscious choices in their daily lives. Simple actions such as recycling, conserving electricity or water or using mass transportation can make a significant difference when adopted by a large number of people. For example, the amount of exhaust fumes can be reduced significantly if people switch to more sustainable forms of vehicles such as public transport or bikes.
Therefore, I consider that collaboration between both groups is required to mitigate environmental degradation. On a state level, the authorities should create conducive conditions for the masses to be involved in beneficial practices of preserving nature including providing education on environmental challenges or incentivising clean technologies. On a personal scale, people should oversee the agenda of politicians to ensure that they fulfil the promises of protecting the environment.
In conclusion, I somewhat oppose that the primary obligation of environmental protection should only lie within the political cohorts as the ordinary community can also employ clean environmental practices in their daily routine. Nonetheless, I admit that politicians have the power and resources to encourage people to participate in eco-friendly activities. Thus, collective actions from both parties are of paramount importance to solving environmental complications. (302 words)
