The line chart compares the average number of tourists entering at different times, between the summer and winter seasons in 2003, to a specific museum in the United Kingdom. Overall, the museum experienced higher visitor traffic in summer than winter. Additionally, for both summer and winter, the largest number of visitors arrived in the morning.
Regarding the winter, the museum welcomed no tourists before midnight, after which the number of guests rose significantly to an average of 600 people by around 10:45 AM, which was the highest point. Subsequently, it experienced a period of mild fluctuation around this level until nearly midday, before plunging continuously and as of approximately 2:30 PM onwards, the museum welcomed no visitors.
During the summer, the number of tourists began at the same point as that of the winter, then ascended considerably to a peak of roughly 1,500 visitors at around 11:30, which was more than double the highest figure for the winter. This was followed by a sudden drop to about 900 customers by around 2:30 PM. In contrast to the winter, the museum still witnessed visitors after this hour; however, the figure declined dramatically to 200 people by 5 PM, and no tourists were welcomed after 5:30 PM. Question: Some people feel that manufacturers and supermarkets have the responsibility to reduce the amount of packaging of goods. Others argue that customers should avoid buying goods with a lot of packaging. Discuss both views and give your opinion.
ANSWER:
Many believe that manufacturers and retailers have accountability for minimizing the quantity of packing used for their products, while others contend that consumers ought to refrain from purchasing items with excessive packaging. This essay will discuss both notions in detail and provide my own perspective.
Proponents of the first viewpoint argue that producers and supermarkets have the ability to produce positive changes on a larger scale. Initially, the level of disposed packaging depends primarily and firstly on goods manufacturers. An immediate reduction of packaging at the production phase lowers the amount of waste to a large extent, as well as eliminates any necessary actions from the subsequent chains. Additionally, retailers can contribute significantly to the mitigation of negative environmental impacts by processing the excessive packaging. This is because they are the medium to distribute the packages between manufacturers and consumers. For example, supermarkets can remove unnecessary packaging and perform recycling operations, before selling the products to consumers.
Nevertheless, there are others who argue that customers should refuse goods with heavy packaging because they have an influence on both fellow buyers and sellers. On a customer level, by avoiding these products, they can spread awareness to other consumers by teaching them about the negative impacts that these packages may have on the environment. It can create a domino effect of conscious consumer behavior, where more or them become aware of the impact of their choices on the environment, as well as lead to a greater demand for sustainable packaging solutions and more responsible consumption habits. On a business scale, if consumers avoid products with excessive packaging, manufacturers and supermarkets will have a financial incentive to reduce packaging in order to meet consumer demand.
In conclusion, both sides have their own merits. On balance, I believe the responsibility belongs to all parties in the logistics chain. This is because producers and retailers can reduce and process the wasted materials before they are released into the environment, whereas consumers have the capability to spread environmental awareness and financial pressure on manufacturers.
